Friday Sermon of Hazrat Amirul Momeneen Zafrullah Domun

Friday Sermon 25th April 2008

After reading the Tashahhud, the Ta’uz and the first chapter of the Holy Quran Hazrat Amirul Mo’menine Zafrullah Domun said:

Usually, it is a well known practice and also a good moral quality that a person should not talk about himself. But for someone who has received an assignment from Allah, the case is different. If he does not tell the people what Allah tells him, how they would know that he has been ordained by Allah to do something. Such a person is brought up in such a way that he is constantly busy confessing his sins at the doorstep of Allah. He does not care what others think of him. His objective in life is to get his sins forgiven so that Allah may look with favor upon him. This explains the self effacement of our beloved Prophet Mohammad(s.a.w) in the Meccan society and also what he was looking for when he secluded himself in the cave of Hira for days. Closer to us we have the example of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (a.s). He stayed aloof from society and he busied himself in prayers, fasting and meditation. If we read the lives of well known saints we would see that their life also followed such a pattern where they did not want to get involved in society but Allah pushed them forward. They were forced to do Allah’s bidding.

I will not tell you that in my case, my life has followed this pattern. No, I was quite well involved in the world, but my heart was most of the time with Allah. I will not tell you about the details but I may say that since I read Hazrat Masih Maood’s book “The Philosophy of the teachings of Islam”, I have always strived to live my life according to the teachings of that book. And by the Grace of Allah, although, at times the path was quite difficult, I think that I have been able to get through rather well. I need to tell you about these things so that you may know. I have always tried to speak the truth and to be true to myself and this allowed me to speak my mind without any fear even if at times, those who were listening to me did not like it. At my place of work and even in the Jamaat I had a reputation for speaking the naked truth. Later on I came across the writing of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (a.s) where he said that if Allah intended to give someone a mission , the first thing that he would grant that person is a love for truth.

When in June 1998 I was thinking about the way I was replaced as the Amir of the Jamaat, I fell into a semi sleep and in a very forceful manner Allah said to me “Tabaarakallazi beyadehil mulk wa howa ala koullé shay’in qadir” which means “Blessed is He in whose hand is the kingdom, and He has power over all things.” The word “mulk” is translated by “kingdom”. But its meanings are quite vast. According to the dictionary it means “dominion, ownership, rule, mastership, sway, right of possession, sovereignty, authority”. It was a moment of distress and trial. But these words were the balm and all distress vanished immediately and my heart was full with joy. I understood that Allah will not let me down and the fact that He had revealed these words to me was an indication that He does what He likes and I should not in the least worry about the events that were unfolding.

By Allah’s Grace the events that have happened since then have been under all angles better than what had happened before. I was removed as the Amir of Jamaat Ahmadiyya Mauritius, Allah sends me as an Imam to the whole world. Some people tried to humiliate me, Allah gave me honour in His Presence. They uprooted me from the Jamaat, Allah told me to make a new Jamaat. They pride themselves with a system of khilafat that they have, Allah makes me an inheritor of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (s.a.w) and Hazrat Masih Maood (a.s). They thought that they were putting me and those who are with me under a trial; Allah has put the whole Jamaat Ahmadiyya in a trial because now they will have to answer to Allah about the welcome that they have given me. They thought that I had to be discarded. Allah tells me to tell them that I am a source of blessings for them. If they ignore me, they ignore the One who has sent me.

On 22nd May 1914, Hazrat Mirza Bashir uddin Mahmood Ahmad (r.a), in his Friday sermon spoke about verses 48-50 of chapter Al Baqara. The first verse is as follows:

“Ya Bani Israil lazkrou ni’mati’allati an’amto alaikoum , wa anni fazzaltokoum alal aalamine” which means “O children of Israel , remember the favours which I bestowed upon you and I exalted you above all the peoples of your time.” He said something very interesting in that sermon. He said that the Jews were at some time in history exalted by Allah especially when they accepted Hazrat Moosa (a.s). Later on they disobeyed and rejected Hazrat Isa (a.s) and even the Holy Prophet Mohammad (s.a.w). They then incurred the displeasure of Allah and they lost Allah’s favour. In the end he says: “Allah has raised a person amongst us also. He has delivered people from the prison of their misfortune, evil whisperings, and evil actions. Pharaoh killed the children and imprisoned women. But in this present time, men, women, children, old and young are in prison. The children of Israel were in Pharaoh’s prison but today’s people are in the prison of Satan. Instead of knowledge, there is ignorance. Where there should be freedom there is slavery. Someone has delivered us from these prisons. If we keep our relationship firm with him we will enter the group of “fazzaltokoum alal alamine” that is “those who are favoured above all others”. Those who would break their relationship with him they will suffer the same fate as the Jews…..”

Now I ask you to reflect on what I am going to say to you next. When we were excommunicated from the Jamaat in 2001, some ignorant and foolish people in the Jamaat in Mauritius said that I was a rebel and that is why I did not present my excuses to the caliph. Moreover they said that Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II had cursed those who were dubbed “the rebels” in the Jamaat in the 1950s. How far this is true I do not know because I have never read this anywhere. But the evil whisperings of some Satans say that there is a letter to that effect. Allah knows better how far that is true or not. But what I know for sure is that last year at least on three different occasions, Allah said to me “Inni Faazltokoum alal alamine” which means “I have exalted you above all other people”. The plural “you” here means I and all those who are with me. Now if you read this in the light of what Hazrat Mirza Bashir uddin Mahmood Ahmad (r.a) said above , you will understand very clearly where Allah’s Favours have manifested itself -on those who have committed evil knowingly or on those who have been persecuted because they said “ Allah is our Lord (Rab)” and they did not recognize any organization( nizam), caliph or amir to be above what Allah says and they followed only His Bidding?

This is how Allah rewards those who have a pure heart and who strive to do good. We are not perfect, but our Lord looks upon us with a benignant look because He knows how we have been persecuted because of our beliefs by ignorant Ahmadis who think that they can do whatever they want because they have “khilafat.” I say it with humility that I do not know of any other group of persons to whom Allah has given such glad tidings in the whole history of Ahmadiyyat. I have said “I do not know” but that does not mean that any such group does not exist. Allah knows better. My point is that since some mullah-like persons within the Jamaat circulate the unfounded news that we are “rebels”, I want just to tell them what is the worth of these “rebels” in Allah’s sight. In addition I want also to inform them how and how Allah has fulfilled what Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II said through these so-called rebels.

In fact who are the rebels? If I were to give a definition, you may say that it is my opinion. Therefore I have chosen some verses of the Holy Quran to help you understand who the rebels really are. The Arabic word that is usually translated as the “rebellious” is “faseqoune”. It is derived from the root “fa sa qa” which has the following meanings amongst others: “to go away from precepts; to go away from the right path; to create disorder; to corrupt oneself; to lead a depraved existence; to be immoral and impious.”
Now let us examine what the Holy Quran says:

“Allah disdains not to give an illustration-as small as a gnat or even smaller. Those who believe know that it is the truth from their Lord, while those who disbelieve say, ‘what does Allah mean by such an illustration?’ Many does He adjudges by it to be in error and many by it does He guide, and none does He adjudge to be in error except the disobedient or rebellious.
Who break Allah’s covenant after having established it and cut asunder what Allah has bidden to be joined and create disorder in the earth; it is these who are the rebellious.”(Ch. 2 : v. 27-28)

Many times we have heard within the Jamaat that if someone says that Allah is telling him something we cannot question his source. We should be very careful and we should rely on those who know better. It is especially on this basis that the revelations of Hazrat Masih Maood (a.s) have been accepted. And in our case some persons within the Jamaat ignorantly said “why should Allah send someone else when we have a caliph”. As if they wanted to tell Allah how he should go about doing His work. Consequently the rebellious ones go astray by reasoning with this mindset.

Then Allah explains who these rebellious ones are. They are those who “break Allah’s covenant once they have established it.” Ahmadis Muslims established their covenant when they accepted Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as someone coming from Allah. They fulfilled the covenant that was established in their names by all prophets as is explained in chapter 3 verse 82 of the Holy Quran which is as follows:

“And remember the time when Allah took the covenant from the prophets saying: whatever I give you of the Book and Wisdom and then there comes to you a Messenger fulfilling that which is with you, you shall believe in him and help him. Do you agree, and do you accept the responsibility which I lay upon you in this matter? They said, “We agree” He said: Then bear witness and I am with you among the witnesses.” (Holy Quran, Ch. 3, v. 82)

Now I am telling them that Allah has sent me as an Imam to them and they have rejected me. Allah says that this is one characteristic of the rebellious. Once they accepted Allah’s covenant they break it. Secondly they cut asunder what Allah has bidden to be joined. Again the Jamaat has forced some of its members to impose a social boycott on others. In the name of a religion of that they have invented they asked their members to stop greeting their own brothers and sisters. Maintaining good family relationship is a virtue in Islam, yet the Jamaat’s administration in Mauritius has systematically tried to break good relationship between some relatives . And this has , of course resulted in plenty of disorder to the extent that it his madness to harm the excommunicated ones the Amir of the Jamaat in Mauritius even closed a mosque on Eid ul adha day so that some members might not pray in it. That is why the verse concludes “It is these that are the losers”. They may be winners in their own eyes but according to the Holy Quran they are the Losers. When Muslims practice unislamic teachings they cannot be rewarded by Allah.

More on this subject incha Allah next time.

Ameen.
